Pausing for a Season

(Written by Jim Band on October 9, 2012.)

As seasons change, sometimes our life’s circumstances change as well.  For the first time in eight years the staff at Jim Band Music will be taking a break this holiday season and will not be offering our usual Saturday-after-Thanksgiving concert.  This was a difficult decision to make because we enjoy doing this work so much.  But changing life circumstances for some of us, including significant new Church responsibilities, have brought about the need to shift priorities, at least for a season or so.

We are not closing up shop or going away, just pushing the pause button for now.  Feel free to communicate with us via our Facebook page, and let us know who you would like us to present when we get things rolling again.

We hope that you and yours have a wonderful Fall and a joyous holiday season.

Alex Boye Performs This Saturday Night!

(Written by Jim Band on April 9, 2012.)

Just a few more days left until another fantastic concert.  Alex is bringing a pianist and some other special guests that you won’t want to miss.  I think it’s safe to say this will be a very entertaining show, and different in many ways from any other show we have presented.

If you are not all that familiar with Alex Boye and are on the fence about whether or not to come, check out the amazing Peponi video again, and ask some friends who probably know more about Alex’s concert performances.  I’m sure they will tell you, it’s a show you don’t want to miss.

And here’s one more video you will want to see - Alex Boye became a naturalized U.S. citizen just a few weeks ago on February 22.  At his swearing in ceremony, he was asked to sing our National Anthem, and he sure did!  Check it out!

Round up the family and some friends and come all together.  You will have way more fun and you can save 20% of the usual ticket price.

See you this Saturday night!

Alex Boye Featured on BYU TV

(Written by Jim Band on April 2, 2012.)

Hi everyone,
There are less than two weeks until the Alex Boye concert. It was lots of fun to see him singing with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir on TV this past weekend.  (He’s pretty easy to spot.)

I also discovered that Alex was featured in a BYU TV program called The Song That Changed My Life.  You can view this fascinating program online and learn about Alex’s amazing life, the personal challenges he has overcome, and what it is about making music that he loves so much.  You will also get to see some great concert footage which will definitely whet your appetite for his show here on April 14.  We encourage you to share this neat video with your social networking contacts.

If you have not already done so, purchase tickets for your family and then tell your Facebook or Google Plus friends that you are going.

The details are all shown below.  See you at the show!

Alex Boye - American Idol Semifinalist - Helicopter over the Salt Flats

(Written by Jim Band on March 28, 2012.)

Surely you must be wondering what these three things in the subject line have in common.

Well, to tell you the truth, its all still a bit of a mystery, but here’s what we do know.  Alex Boye was in San Francisco earlier this week doing a video shoot with one of the Idol finalists (we won’t know which one until next month), and yesterday he was in the Salt Flats doing another video shoot, that seems to have involved some helicopter shots.  I imagine there are some great stories surrounding each of these events, and I’m pretty sure that those of you who come to Alex’s April 14 concert (at Hillsboro’s Venetian Theater) will get the inside scoop.

Oh sure, you could just wait until something shows up on YouTube and watch it on your computer monitor while you listen to the music over those tiny little computer speakers you use.  Or, you could come to see Alex in person, up close and personal.  Where you will hear and see amazing things with room-filling, crystal clear sound and stunning movie theater-sized HD video footage to go along with Alex’s incredible live performance.  At only $20 per ticket (and even cheaper in bulk) you won’t find a better entertainment value anywhere.

Purchase your tickets online and join us at the show.  Trust me, you *wont* be sorry!!

The Amazing Alex Boye′ in Concert!

(Written by Jim Band on March 21, 2012.)

Hello everyone!

After taking a few months off we are back at it for 2012.  Our first concert of this season is on April 14th and features an amazing artist: Alex Boye′

Born and raised in London, England, Alex has been wowing audiences with his energy, wit and musical talents for over 15 years.  After serving a mission for the LDS church he formed his own band, and achieved remarkable success in European markets, selling over 500,000 CD’s.  He has performed alongside such groups as Simon and Garfunkel, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, N’SYNC, Jay-Z, The Backstreet Boys, Jordyn Sparks, Missy Elliott, Mary. J.Blige, David Archuleta, and The smashing Pumpkins, to name a few.  Alex is also a member of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and is featured as a soloist on their most recent album.

If you are getting the sense that Alex is both unique and highly versatile, you are getting it about right!  To get a taste of just how unique and talented Alex is, you’ve got to check out Peponi, a music video that Alex did along with our good friends Jon Schmidt and Steven Sharp Nelson.  In only three months, this video has been viewed over 4.6 million times on YouTube.

April 14 is coming up fast, and the venue only seats 380 people.  So don’t delay.  Grab a bunch of tickets for your family and some friends and join us for another fantastic concert!

It’s a Sellout!

(Written by Jim Band on November 23, 2011.)

As predicted, we have completely sold out both Jon Schmidt performances.  If you were not able to purchase tickets, there is still a glimmer of hope.  People who have purchased tickets but find that they are unable to use them are posting messages on our Facebook page. You can send messages directly to them and see what can be worked out.  You are also free to post messages indicating a willingness to buy any excess tickets.  Please exercise appropriate care whenever posting on public social networking pages, and keep in mind that any transactions that may ensue are strictly between the parties involved, and not with Jim Band Music.

Also, we would love to get your suggestions for artists or groups you would like to see at future concerts.  Leave a post on our Facebook page. And while you are there, please “Like” us.

Helping Young People Discover Their Musical Talents

(Written by Jim Band on November 9, 2011.)

One of my favorite things about a Jon Schmidt concert is to see how many young people come out.  In many instances these are youth who are learning to play the piano or some other musical instrument, and who have been inspired by Jon’s amazing arrangements and by his teaching methods.  Jon has a way to relate to young people that makes playing music both fun and cool.  And now Steven Sharp Nelson adds to this by making it cool to be a cello player as well.

When a young person hears and falls in love with new music that is uplifting and positive, it’s a great thing.  But when we motivate a young person to discover their own musical talents and inspire them to want to perform and/or create such music, it’s an awesome thing!  The positive impacts that this can have on their own life and on the lives of those around them are enormous.

As you consider the gifts that you will give this Christmas season, consider a gift that will expose young people to the influence of incredible music while making treasured memories that will last far beyond anything that can be wrapped in paper.

See you at the show!

Jim Band Music is very pleased to announce that our 2011 Christmas concert will feature  long time audience favorite: pianist Jon Schmidt. Appearing with Jon will be cellist Steven Sharp Nelson. Together these two artists will create more amazing music than you would ever imagine possible. For a sample of the things you will hear, check out some of Jon’s YouTube videos here.

We will once again be using our favorite venue - The Venetian Theater, located at 253 E. Main Street in downtown Hillsboro.  We are excited to offer two performances, both on Saturday, November 26.  There will be an afternoon performance at 3:00 pm, and an evening performance at 7:30 pm.

A Great Endorsement for Mindy Gledhill’s Show

(Written by Jim Band on March 27, 2011.)

We are just days away from the March 29 concert featuring singer-songwriter Mindy Gledhill.  The folks at Jim Band Music and Fedora AV (our affiliate company that does the sound and lighting for our shows) are busy making all of the final plans and preparations.  Production Director Ed Arrington shared with me a notable email that he received this last week from his twenty-something married daughter Lindsay.  Since this is pertinent, I thought you all might enjoy seeing the message as well:

Dad,

I don’t know if you’re familiar with Mindy Gledhill.  A friend recently shared some of her music with me… she’s pretty amazing.  She would be a great person to bring to OR for your concert series.  She does some LDS music but also does love songs, lullabies, and just fun inspirational songs.

Love,

Lindsay

It’s always gratifying to have someone from the young adult generation make a ringing endorsement of the talent we are presenting in our concerts.

Spread the word, buy your tickets online, and we’ll see you at the show, this Tuesday, 7:30 pm,  at the Venetian Theater in Hillsboro.

A Challenge Offered to Mindy’s Fans

(Written by Jim Band on March 19, 2011.)

Hi everyone - we are down to just 9 more days until Mindy comes to town to put on an awesome show for us. We have a challenge to offer to all of you who are fans of Mindy.

Here’s the deal - we challenge Mindy Gledhill’s fans to spread the word about her March 29 show in Hillsboro, OR, as widely as possible.  The fan who drives the largest number of ticket sales, will be rewarded!  Mindy is inviting the winner plus a small number of their family or friends to enjoy a private meal with her following the show.  To accept this challenge, and to get more information about how it will all work, just follow this link to a fun new web site created by our good friend, Kevin Jones.  (Kevin and his family are now living in Huntsville, Alabama, but he wanted me to say “hi” to everyone, and tell you all that he very much misses doing the shows.)

So get busy, accept the challenge and help us get the word out.  You might be the lucky winner who spends some amazing quality time with Mindy following her show.

Here are the concert particulars:
